INTERACTIONS WITH TIME 2020

Interactions with Time is a series of geometric works created by artist Kenzie Sitterud during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic that explore the passage of time. The show represents a shift in materials for Sitterud, who normally works in sculpture. Adapting to the pandemic, which forced all activity indoors, the artist began working in media that imposed a greater awareness of time—painting, photography and performance. During this time, they developed the patience to take the pandemic day by day during a time of uncertainty, isolation, and sadness.

The bulk of the show consists of a series of geometric abstract color theory paintings made over the last year and a half. The painstaking process of making the paintings extends time’s passage as do the interactions of color itself. Sitterund applies Joseph Albers’ method of color theory to produce the work.

Composed of seven acrylic paintings mixed with primary colors and neons, the paint’s vibrating relationship to fields of color reflects the contrast of our lives pre-covid and post covid.
