The DAM exhibition, Serious Play, was an exhibit of mid-twentieth century post-war object design. This period in our history was one of great hope, excitement for the future and anticipation of how The American Dream would be realized and enjoyed by Americans.  It was also an era where inequality and disparity among members of society was also quite prevalent.

Today’s environment is also one of extreme inequality and injustice, but what is different, is that the American Dream is now in danger of disappearing.  Hope and enthusiasm for the future have been replaced by anxiety and fear. The world has become a very serious place as a result of the stresses of environmental change, political corruption, economic imbalance, and dwindling resources, and everyday more and more people are waking up to this fact.   What has happened to the American Dream? It's a very serious time in history.

SIT. STAND. PLAY. is Kenzie Sitterud’s attempt to design an evening that invites the audience to recognize the seriousness of it all, and at the same time, forget about their worries through play. This was a four hour event  that encouraged patrons to tap into their playfulness while engaging with strangers with different perspectives. Kenzie’s main goal is to create some serious moments through the use of juxtaposition through sound, performance, and color.
