The Wardrobe is an immersive piece that is designed to create a visceral response to the viewer. The intent of the instillation is to create an environment that is designed to give the viewer a perspective of how it feels to exist and live in a world that forces communities to “come out” in heteronormative binary society. The Wardrobe is an intimate autobiography moment from my childhood. The moment I realized I am queer while listening to Ray of Light by Madonna while looking through a mirror. The eggs turned eggshells, are metaphoric of walking on eggshells. The neon eye is a reference to the eye of God. The “clothing” is stereotype typographic references of queer community and the words Pass. The projection is a clip from Bob Mizer Foundation Film Archive Monte Hanson & Tony Gallo, a vintage athletic video.
